Student Spotlight, April 2017

Introducing our amazing student Karen!

Every month we feature an Aradia Fitness Calgary student who we feel embodies our community of positive, supportive, powerful and fabulous women! For the month of April we are featuring Karen!  She is so much of an inspiration to our instructors, that she was the overwhelming favourite this month!. Karen took her first pole class with us in June 2016 and since then has been committed and focused on her progression (which is outstanding by the way). Even with her busy career in property management in real estate, she manages to take at least one if not two or three classes per week. She is an absolute joy to have in class and always has a smile on her face.  Here is her story.

Aradia Calgary Student Spotlight Karen
Student Spotlight for April 2017, KAREN! Here she demonstrates her Swan with beautiful technique.

Hometown:  Calgary

Favourite Pastime (outside of pole):  Cooking and doing Hot Yoga.

Where were you in life before you joined and became a student at Aradia?  How were you feeling?

I was so bored!  I was literally running and not going anywhere, but more than that, I was desperate for something new.  I wanted a change and I had ALWAYS wanted to try pole (I tended to hang off of door frames and twirl around – even as a kid).  I have my own pole now so at least it’s more legit!

What was your turning point when you decided to take action and come to your first pole class?

I was actually lacing up my runners when it hit me how much I needed to do something different, something that was fun and completely for myself.  I googled Pole Dance Calgary and found Aradia – that was nearly a year ago and I have loved every single week since that intro class!

What surprised you about pole dance and fitness?

I felt like I had finally found the “tribe” I had been searching for – like maybe these fantastic women who came here and the amazing instructors also hung off of door frames as kids and pretended to pole dance!  It was fresh, it was fun and it fit perfectly.

What keeps you motivated to come to classes consistently?

I can challenge myself – the harder I work and the more I am willing to push myself, the better I am.  I like that it keeps me focused.  I love it! 🙂
